It is not a quality grade or a guarantee of a particular shade of blue.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"which-colours-occur-in-sri-lanka\">Which colours occur in Sri Lanka?<\/h2>\n<p>Sri Lanka is particularly famous for blue sapphires, but its sapphire production includes a range of colours:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Blue.<\/li>\n<li>Yellow.<\/li>\n<li>Pink.<\/li>\n<li>Violet.<\/li>\n<li>Colourless.<\/li>\n<li>Stones with more than one colour zone.<\/li>\n<li>Some sapphires that meet a laboratory&#x27;s criteria for the padparadscha designation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Not every pink-orange sapphire is automatically a padparadscha. The report and the stone&#x27;s individual characteristics matter.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-do-sri-lankan-blue-sapphires-look\">How do Sri Lankan blue sapphires look?<\/h2>\n<p>There is no single \u201cCeylon blue\u201d. Some stones are light and bright; others have a stronger, more saturated blue.<\/p>\n<p>The value depends on the individual sapphire rather than simply the country named on its report. Fine stones and commercial-quality material can come from the same country.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"why-can-origin-influence-value\">Why can origin influence value?<\/h2>\n<p>Certain origins have a strong historical reputation and market demand. A documented origin can therefore influence a buyer&#x27;s choice and the price.<\/p>\n<p>A prestigious origin does not turn an average stone into an exceptional one. Colour, transparency, treatment, cut and clarity remain essential.<\/p>\n<p>Nor can a familiar colour prove origin: sapphires from different countries can look very similar.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"heated-and-unheated-stones\">Heated and unheated stones<\/h2>\n<p>Sri Lankan sapphires may be heated or unheated, just like sapphires from other sources. Treatment should be clearly disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>An unheated stone with fine natural colour can be particularly sought after, but the absence of heating alone does not guarantee beauty or value.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-is-origin-documented\">How is origin documented?<\/h2>\n<p>Origin cannot reliably be determined by a casual visual inspection. For an important sapphire sold with an origin claim, a recognised laboratory&#x27;s origin opinion is useful when available.<\/p>\n<p>The laboratory draws on gemological observations and analytical data. Some stones remain inconclusive, and not all report types include origin.<\/p>\n<p>The place where a sapphire is traded is a separate fact.
